MOSMAN 02

Harmony in Mosman

With spectacular vistas over Mosman’s Middle Harbour to the rippling water and bobbing boats, our clients revealed that the view, size and location rather than the house itself was what drew them to this property. Clean and modern, it had served its purpose but after a decade the time finally felt right to renovate. The brief was initially the maintenance and re-design of the bathrooms and kitchen, but things quickly evolved into a top-to-toe reimagining and we ended up transforming the staid interiors into a home of quiet simplicity worthy of its exceptional setting and awe-inspiring panorama.

The owners were seeking a decorative refresh that was modern but homely and suitable for a young, busy family of four. We gave our attention to the remodelling of the kitchen, introducing curved silhouettes on the chunky island base and juxtaposing cool Taj Mahal Quartzite with rich chocolatey timber. Under counter stools are an open-invitation for casual congregating and the living room has been outfitted with a generous ivory sofa for everyone to enjoy. In the heart of the home, these sophisticated yet comfortable spaces that regularly hum with the energy of friends and family.

Confronted with austere finishes, we spun some magic and softened the harshness with textural materiality, introducing repetitive fluting on the fireplace surround, rangehood and bathroom vanities. Bespoke and superbly crafted, the textural grooves contrast with the home’s smooth, creamy stone.

Channelling a serene and tranquil environment, we adopted a pale, muted colour palette to ensure that nothing would detract from the elegant tree trunks and lush vegetation of the garden canopy. With mother nature on the doorstep and re-energised interiors layered with thoughtful fixtures and fittings, the outcome is a timeless, future-proof home that our clients can enjoy for years to come.
